27 dead bears

There have been 27 black bears killed on Maryland roads this year, according to an unofficial count maintained by the Cumberland Times-News.

On Sept. 8, a 47-pound male bear was struck and killed on North Hill Road near Kitzmiller in Garrett County.

The Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service received a complaint from the Myersville area of Frederick County that a bear had gotten into a chicken coop and 16 chickens were dead or missing. A bear trap has been set.
