There have been no bears killed on Maryland highways since Aug. 14, according to Clarissa Harris of the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service, who called that period “nice and quiet.”
The 2013 road-kill total remains at 26.
“We expect it to start picking up any day,” Harris said, pointing out that all the animals are moving and feeding more with the days getting shorter and winter getting closer each day.
A bear has been getting into garbage on the outskirts of Frederick in recent days, according to Harris.
