Checkpoint nets traffic citations

MOUNT SAVAGE — A 40-year-old Barrelville Road man was cited by deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Friday at 7:45 a.m. during a seat belt check at the Mount Savage School on New School Road.

Kenneth Eugene Keller Jr. was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving suspended, driving revoked, tags belonging to another vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle and seat belt violation, according to Lt. R.G. Bell along with Deputies Gary Crowe and A.A. Wilson.

Keller reportedly came through a school zone with no seat belt, and the deputies smelled suspected alcohol and discovered that Keller allegedly had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Ten other citations for seat belt or child safety seat violations were issued by deputies to other drivers during the checkpoint.

Garrett County woman facing assault charge

GRANTSVILLE — A woman was arrested Tuesday after Maryland State Police troopers responded to the Meadowland Apartments at 10:49 p.m. for a report of an altercation between three people.

Kristian Rose Bittinger allegedly assaulted two of her neighbors and became disorderly while troopers were there, according to police.

Bittinger was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. She initially was held in the Garrett County Detention Center on $1,000 bond but later released on her own recognizance following a bail review, according to a jail spokesman.

One injured in U.S. Route 50 vehicle crash

JUNCTION, W.Va. — One person was injured Friday in a vehicle accident reported at 3:24 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 220 in Hampshire County, according to the Mineral County Office of Emergency Services.

Burlington Volunteer Fire Department and ambulance were dispatched. The injured person was taken to Cumberland Memorial Hospital.

Tpr. C.T. Kessel from the West Virginia State Police detachment at Romney investigated. No further details were available late Friday.
