5/11 - Small fire at NewPage

The Allegany County 911 Joint Communications Division received a report of a small fire early Saturday at the NewPage facility in Luke.

The fire was started at about 5:20 a.m. on the roof of the Nos. 8 and 9 paper machine building. The fire was contained to a small section of the roof area where a combustible substance had come into contact with a steam line, said NewPage spokesperson Patsy Koontz.

There were no injuries. Koontz said only the Luke Fire Department responded. Firefighters were on the scene until 7 a.m. Details of the fire are being investigated by factory employees, Koontz said.
