5/11 - Hampshire Co. man killed

A Hampshire County, W.Va., man was killed in a head-on collision with a tractor trailer Saturday morning about three miles north of the West Virginia and Maryland border along state Route 51 near Kerns Cemetery Road.

Maryland State Police said Travis Ray Everett, 26, of Green Spring, W.Va., was traveling westbound on state Route 51 when his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed the center line and struck a tractor trailer operated by Roy P. Edson, 64, of Lynchburg, Va.

The Jeep caught fire and attempts by Edson and a witness, Larry McGreevy, to remove Everett from the vehicle were unsuccessful.

Everett’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.
