5/12 - Chase ends with arrest

FROSTBURG - Police officers' attempt to stop a vehicle traveling Saturday at 2:08 a.m. without its headlights turned into a brief high-speed vehicle chase and foot pursuit before the driver was apprehended.

Alex George Mancera, 18, of Silver Spring, was driving on East College Avenue. Mancera avoided officers' attempt to stop the vehicle and, reaching speeds of more than 50 miles per hour, led police on a chase onto University Drive. Police said Mancera then drove through a parking lot at Frostburg State University and entered Broadway, where he struck a parked vehicle and continued to elude law enforcement.

Police officers were able to pin Mancera's vehicle down at the intersection of Broadway and East College. Mancera then exited his vehicle and fled on foot. Two patrolmen caught up with Mancera and apprehended him.

Mancera was charged with DUI/DWI, hit-and-run, attempting to flee a police vehicle and attempting to flee from police on foot.
