5/12 - One severely hurt in crash

CUMBERLAND - A Cumberland resident suffered apparent life-threatening injuries after being involved in a one-car accident early Sunday morning in Cumberland.

Ashten Zegles, 19, was a passenger in a 1994 Chevrolet Corvette driven by Drake Conner, also 19, of Cumberland. Maryland State Police said Conner was driving eastbound on Williams Road when he failed to negotiate a lefthand curve. The vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder then skidded across the roadway before coming to a stop on the westbound shoulder.

Conner sustained only minor injuries, for which he refused treatment at the scene, police said. Zegles was transported to Cumberland Memorial Hospital.
