5/16 - Mineral teens hurt in Route 956 accident

CUMBERLAND - Two Mineral County teenagers were taken to Cumberland Memorial Hospital after their vehicle traveled out of control and overturned on state Route 956 near Short Gap early Wednesday evening.

West Virginia State Police Cpl. H.C. Myers reported the accident occurred when a 2001 Ford Focus, operated by a 16-year-old Fort Ashby boy and also occupied by two males, ages 16 and 17 of Ridgeley, struck an embankment and then overturned.

Two of the youths were taken by ambulance to the hospital following the 7:14 p.m. mishap. No information was available concerning the extent of injuries or medical conditions.

The driver, who told police he had swerved to avoid striking an animal in the roadway, was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle, police said.
