10/7 - Preston man killed in accident

Cumberland Times-News

TUNNELTON, W.Va. — An 18-year-old Preston County man was fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident Sunday on Birds Creek Road near Route 92, according to the Preston County Sheriff’s Department.

Charles Dee Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:47 p.m. crash.

Deputy T.E. Mitter reported Taylor was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by James Gorman, 32, of Kingwood when Gorman swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle that had traveled into his lane. The Gorman vehicle then traveled out of control and rolled over into a yard of a private residence. Taylor, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Gorman told police the vehicle he swerved to avoid was a silver Pontiac, possibly a Grand Am or a Grand Prix.

Anyone with information about the accident or who may have seen a silver Pontiac on Birds Creek Road is asked to call Mitter at the sheriff’s department at (304) 329-1611.
