Cumberland Times-News

OAKLAND — An accident late Saturday on U.S. Route 50 at Alt House Hill led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man who allegedly ran from the scene after the incident, according to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office.

George Hensley was charged with driving under the influence, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed on a curve in the roadway, police said.

Following the arrest, Hensley was released on his personal recognizance, pending trial in district court.

Police said Hensley was operating a 2004 Chevrolet vehicle eastbound on Route 50 when he failed to slow for a turn, struck a guardrail and came to rest there among the guardrail's structural supports.

Hensley and a passenger were not injured in the crash. Police said the they ran from the area but were located by deputies at the intersection of Routes 50 and 560.
