— WESTERNPORT — A Westernport man was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for evaluation after he allegedly assaulted a person on Main Street in Westernport at an ATM machine early Friday afternoon.

The suspect was subdued by a Mineral County Sheriff’s Office deputy after the man allegedly committed assaults in Piedmont be-fore walking across the bridge into Westernport.

At the ATM machine, the suspect allegedly assaulted a man and tried to kick out the window of a sheriff’s office cruiser.

The suspect was then taken out of the vehicle and placed on the ground while restrained. The suspect then repeatedly banged his head against the police vehicle, resulting in a head laceration, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said charges are pending in the incident and possibly in Mineral County as a result of alleged assaults there.

Tri-Towns Rescue Squad took the man to the hospital.
