OAKLAND — A Preston County, W.Va., man was arrested Monday by the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the theft of copper wire from an Oakland business.
Brian Lee Moats, 29, was charged with second-degree burglary, theft over $10,000 and destruction of property over $500 when he was served an arrest warrant.
Moats was granted pre-trial release after posting $5,000 bond Tuesday, police said.
The charges stemmed from alleged theft of heavy copper wire from a warehouse of the GMS Mine Repair and Maintenance Co.
Police said Moats allegedly stole the wire and then sold it to salvage yards in Westernport and Elk Garden, W.Va.
