— BERLIN (AP) — State police say a 16-year-old boy was killed after he and his brother crossed a highway into the path of a trooper’s cruiser in Berlin.

Police say the trooper tried to take evasive action but couldn’t avoid running into the boys. Sixteen-year-old Tymeir Dennis was taken to a hospital, where he died. His brother, Tyheym Bowen, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. Friday on Route 113. Police say they don’t know why the two brothers ran into the path of the car.

The trooper, 21-year-old Nicholas Hager, a Frostburg native, is assigned to the Berlin barrack and has been a trooper for a year. He was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
