Westernport store robbed by gunman

— WESTERNPORT — No injuries were reported when a lone gunman robbed the Fair Price Market at about 3 a.m. Thursday, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect entered the state Route 135 businesss, brandished a handgun, demanded money and fled with cash handed to him from the cash register.

Police converged on the business upon learning of the incident. A search of the area did not lead to the suspect, who was described as 5 feet, 3 inches to 5 feet, 4 inches tall, thin build, wearing a heavy dark-colored coat, dark toboggan and a black and white bandana over his face.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department with a K-9 unit, Maryland State Police and the C3I Unit.
