Alleged robbery results in arrests - 03/27

— CUMBERLAND — Two city men who were recently listed as part of a warrant sweep on fraud charges were arrested after they allegedly robbed a man Monday night as he was leaving a business in the area of Maryland Avenue and Broadway Street.

Cumberland Police re-sponded to the complaint at 8:59 p.m. and were told by the victim that one suspect ap-proached him as another one grabbed him from behind and stole about $30 from his pants pocket.

Mark Smith Sr., 46, and Darryl Powell Sr., 35, were both charged with theft, conspiracy to commit theft, second-degree assault and robbery.

The two men had fled but officers were able to locate them. They were held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $25,000 bonds. The victim did not require medical attention, police said.
