OAKLAND — Three teenage boys in Garrett County have been charged after confessing to constructing a destructive device that was located near the Southern Garrett Middle School tennis courts by a passerby Sunday, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old viewed the homemade device, which consisted of a tennis ball and matches, on the Internet. They attempted to detonate it without success.
Each boy was charged with manufacture, possession and distribution of a destructive device and was referred to the Department of Juvenile Services. They were released to the custody of their parents.
