City police respond to drug complaint - 07/16

— CUMBERLAND — Cumberland Police made two arrests after being alerted to possible drug activity Sunday evening on Queen City Drive.

The witness directed police to a vehicle where the suspects were at 6:45 p.m. When the officers approached, the driver tried to flee but was stopped nearby, police said. Officers observed suspected drug paraphernalia in plain view and removed the subjects from the vehicle.

Officers searched the subjects and vehicle and allegedly found a suspected controlled dangerous substance. The driver, Darin Ellsworth Beckwith, 45, of Winchester, Va., was charged with attempting to elude police.

He was issued citations and released.

The passenger, Belinda Billie Kay Davis, 39, of Corriganville was charged with possession of CDS, not marijuana, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

She was released on personal recognizance by a district court commissioner.
