CUMBERLAND — Allegany College of Maryland is alerting area residents of a door-to-door solicitor who is misrepresenting herself as an agent of the college as she offers to help them secure scholarships.
ACM has informed both the Cumberland Police Department and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office of reports that a woman falsely claimed to represent the college as she canvassed a neighborhood in the city’s Nave’s Crossroad area on Monday.
The college, which does not send representatives door-to-door, was alerted to the instance by a former student whose daughter was approached at home.
The same woman also reportedly went to a neighboring home with offers to help the young occupants obtain college scholarships.
ACM is asking those with information about such incidents to contact city or county law enforcement.
