Grantsville incident prompts arrests - 07/11

GRANTSVILLE — Two Grantsville men were arrested Tuesday when Maryland State Police investigated an assault complaint in the 13900 block of National Pike.

John Norman Merrbach Jr., 53, and Steven Michael Hall, 22, were both charged with second-degree assault following investigation of the 5:17 p.m. complaint.

Both defendants were released on their personal recognizance that evening when they appeared in a bond hearing before a district court commissioner.

  • 04/17 - Sobriety check set in Hampshire

    ROMNEY, W.Va. — A sobriety checkpoint will be conducted Friday night and early Saturday along U.S. Route 50 near Romney, according to West Virginia State Police.
    The checkpoint will be conducted from 8 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, according to 1st Sgt. C.A. Mahood, Troop 2, District 2 commander.

    Keyser Police responded to the Mineral County Technical Center on Monday at 10:46 a.m. for an incident in which a 19-year-old student was allegedly thrown into a wall by a 17-year-old student. The students, who are both mentally challenged, “were horsing around,” according to Karen Shoemaker, chief of police.
