Cumberland Times-News

— CUMBERLAND — A 30-year-old Cumberland man who allegedly robbed the M&T Bank on Industrial Boulevard on July 12 was released from jail four days later after posting bond, according to court records.

William Morgan Stewart, 30, of Creek Road, was arrested July 12, the same day he allegedly robbed the bank.

Jailed initially at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond, a district court judge set bond at $30,000 in a bail review  July 15.

The next day, Stewart posted a required 10 percent of the bond amount through a bail bondsman and was released, pending his next court appearance, according to Maryland Judiciary Case Search court records.

Those court records also show that Stewart was convicted of armed robbery in Washington County in 2002 and was sentenced to a five-year prison term.

Stewart was indicted by an Allegany County grand jury July 16 — the same day he was released from the detention center.

He is scheduled to appear in an initial hearing in Allegany County Circuit Court on Aug. 13.
