07/07 - Man allegedly blocked door to keep police out

CUMBERLAND — A 47-year-old city man was jailed late Saturday after Cumberland Police and Allegany County sheriff’s deputies responded to an incident in the 900 block of Gay Street.

Robert Lewis Adams Jr., was charged with two counts of seconddegree assault and one count of disorderly conduct following the 9:45 p.m. incident in which Adams reportedly barricaded a front door of the dwelling to prevent officers from entering.

Adams reportedly struggled briefly with police before he was taken into custody with no further incident.

Additional charges of obstructing and hindering police and resisting a lawful arrest were also filed against Adams.

Deputies had arrived at the residence to serve a protective order and an arrest warrant before officers requested the assistance of Cumberland Police.

The warrant stemmed from an alleged assault of a female victim at the residence.

Adams remained jailed Sunday on $5,000 bond set by a district court commissioner.
