06/19 - Arrest made in Pa. crime spree

— SOMERSET, Pa. — A Somerset County man who may have targeted his victims by following Meals on Wheels volunteers was awaiting arraignment Wed-nesday on numerous charges of theft and burglary, Pennsylvania State Police said.

James Brian Hay, 46, of Garrett was held at the Somerset County Jail following his arrest by state police.

Hay allegedly went door to door in Garrett borough, Main Street in Berlin, the Rockwood area of Water Level Road and Bando Road, Shanksville borough in the Indian Lake area, Buckstown and Brotherton Road in the Friedens area.

In one instance, he allegedly spoke to the homeowner, walked into the residence without being invited and then stole a wallet.

Another complaint in-volved talking with a homeowner about doing home repairs before the suspect asked for a glass of water. He then allegedly helped himself to a glass of water and stole prescription medications police said.

Another crime involved the theft of a chainsaw that was later sold to a local business. Jewelry and watches have also been sold to a local business, police said.

The crimes occurred over the past 12 to 16 days, police said.
