MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — A state lawmaker from Monongalia County was hospitalized Saturday with a gunshot wound to the leg, House Speaker Tim Miley said.
Miley told The Associated Press that a daughter of Delegate Anthony Barill informed him the 80-year-old Barill was shot early Saturday during a “family situation.”
Ruby Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Amy Johns said Barill was in fair condition.
A Morgantown police statement didn’t mention Barill but said the department was investigating an “unattended death” in the city’s Woodburn area.
A county emergency services log shows a shooting occurred at Barill’s Morgantown home and that officers arrived at 1:50 a.m. The EMS log also shows a medical examiner responding to the residence and another EMS unit being sent to a funeral home.
