CUMBERLAND — A woman was arrested Saturday on Maryland Avenue after Cumberland Police responded to an assault complaint and subsequently located a victim, who said she had been slapped and threatened with a handgun.
Shirley Delaine Crites, 52, of Cumberland, was arrested after police responded to the altercation complaint at 538 Maryland Ave.
Crites had gotten into a dispute with a visiting female friend who she admitted to slapping and asking her to leave her residence, police said.
The victim told police Crites went into her bedroom and reappeared with a handgun.
The victim said Crites pointed the gun at her head and said “if you don’t leave I’m going to shoot you.”
Police located the gun in the bedroom, which they said was not loaded. Crites told police she did not threaten the friend.
Police also located a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana that was in plain view in the residence.
Crites was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance.
