SOMERSET — A guard at a Somerset County prison has been charged with conspiring with two inmates to smuggle contraband into the lockup.
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections said 35-year-old Donald Lynch of Fort Loudon was charged Tuesday after his wife told investigators that Lynch had boasted of making easy money by smuggling the items into SCI-Somerset. Those items included including marijuana, pornographic magazines and Muslim religious oils, authorities said.
According to a criminal complaint filed by internal investigators, Lynch smuggled some of the items into the state prison in Somerset in tennis balls and hollow, plastic practice golf balls.
The drugs and other items were sent to Lynch’s home by friends of inmates, who also paid him with gift cards or by money transfers into an online account, investigators said.
