— CUMBERLAND — A Cumberland Police officer used a Taser to subdue a Ridgeley, W.Va., man who was suspected of entering parked vehicles Thursday in the 700 block of Frederick Street.

An officer who spoke to one of the victims saw Robert Barrett, 31, bent down behind a trailer going through several bags. Barrett attempted to run and was subdued and placed in custody.

Barrett was found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, several tools and property that was taken from two vehicles parked in the area. He was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Center, where he was cleared by medical staff.

Police charged Barrett with two counts of theft, rogue and vagabond; obstructing and hindering; resisting arrest; possession and intent to distribute CDS; and possession of paraphernalia and burglary tools.

He was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $25,000 bond. The investigation is continuing and additional charges will be forthcoming, police said.
