City men charged in domestic cases - 01/14

CUMBERLAND — Investigation of two separate domestic violence complaints within a five-hour period Monday led to two arrests, Cumberland Police said.

At 8:23 p.m., city police were called to a residence on Jackson Street for investigation of an alleged assault.

Police said a male victim was allegedly punched in the face by James Rummer Jr., 53, of Cumberland before Rummer allegedly threatened to burn down the victim’s residence.

Rummer was arrested at the scene on charges of second-degree assault and threat of arson.

Following a bond hearing, Rummer was released on his personal recognizance by a district court commissioner.

Police said the victim did not require medical attention.

Five hours earlier, investigation of a domestic assault in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue led to the arrest of James Murphy Jr., 21, Cumberland, on charges of second-degree assault and theft less than $100, police said.

Murphy allegedly pushed the victim and then took some of her personal items and keys before leaving the residence.

Murphy was arrested after police located him on Gay Street.

Following a bond hearing, Murphy was released on his personal recognizance by a district court commissioner.
