Man gets 18-month jail sentence - 05/08

CUMBERLAND — OAKLAND — Charles Raymond Housley Jr., 39, Kitzmiller, was sentenced in the Garrett County Circuit Court to 18 months in the Maryland Division of Correction in two cases, with the sentences to run concurrently. Retired Judge Diane Leasure presided.

Housley pleaded guilty to theft under $1,000 in November and sentencing had been postponed until the second case was completed.

In the first case, Housley was charged by Garrett County sheriff’s deputies in February, when he was caught selling “scrap” at a local junkyard that was determined to be old equipment from a farm in the Vindex area.

In the second case, Housley pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license.

Related charges were dismissed.

Maryland State Police had stopped Housley’s vehicle along Maryland Highway in February 2012 for a speeding violation.

The trooper observed the driver jump over the seat into the rear of the extended cab and the passenger assume the role of driver. After initially providing a false name and date of birth, Housley was arrested on the traffic violations as well as an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for trial in Frederick County.
