— SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Short Gap and Ridgeley volunteer firefighters doused a fire that rekindled Tuesday after heavily damaging a residence on Joy Drive in the Knobley Estates subdivision on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were alerted shortly after 7 a.m. when smoke was seen coming from the fire-damaged brick rancher owned by Virgil Markwood, according to the Mineral County 911 Center. Units were on the call for a short while.

The cause of the Monday afternoon fire that sent flames through the roof of the residence remains under investigation by fire officials.
