SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. — A Springfield man has been charged in connection with a fire in a house under construction at the Bird Ridge Estates in Springfield on Feb. 18. The arrest was made two days later.
Evan W. Hunt, 20, remained jailed Tuesday at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta on charges of first-degree arson and burglary with a bond of $20,000 set by a Hampshire County magistrate.
Hampshire Deputy First Class Chad Hott observed footprints in the snow leading from the burning residence. A Mineral County K-9 unit tracked the prints to a residence where the occupants were questioned and denied involvement in the incident.
A citizen’s tip and interview with Hunt as a possible suspect in the case led to his arrest subsequent to the initial interview.
Several Hampshire County volunteer fire companies had responded to the fire, according to Hampshire Chief Deputy/911 Director Nathan J. Sions.
