GRANTSVILLE — Moderate damage resulted to a Main Street residence Monday following a fire that is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The incident at the Richard Powers property just west of state Route 669 occurred at about 6:55 a.m. and was quickly brought under control by Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department and assisting companies.
First-arriving firefighters found “fire coming out of the enclosed front porch,” said Grantsville Fire Chief Duane Stein, who credited the volunteers for a “quick knock- down” of the fire.
The structure was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
The fire originated on the front porch and the cause is under investigation by state fire investigators.
Grantsville, Salisbury, Bittinger and Deep Creek volunteer firefighters and Northern Garrett Rescue Squad responded upon alert by the Garrett County 911 Center.
Stein said 35 to 40 volunteer firefighters responded to the incident.
