CUMBERLAND — Almost 2,100 homes lost power in Cumberland Sunday a little after 3 p.m., though all but 230 or so were back in service by 6 p.m., according to John Emerick of Potomac Edison.
The remainder were expected to have electricity shortly after that.
The problem, Emerick said, was that a homeowner on Pine Avenue cut a tree that fell across the lines.
“It was on the Shades Lane circuit,” Emerick said. “Everything out Shades Lane to Naves Crossroad lost power. Also Williams Street up to Constitution Park was affected.”
A dispatcher at the Allegany County 911 Center said the generator kicked on there at 3:20 p.m. and ran for a hour before electricity was restored.
