CUMBERLAND — An attempt to pawn items at a local pawn shop failed when the store owner discovered that the items had apparently been stolen from the business, Cumberland Police said.
An arrest was made Tuesday in connection with the March 7 incident in which William W. Blacker, 63, Cumberland, entered a Baltimore Street business and placed items on the counter to pawn them.
Police said the employee recognized some of the items, removed them from the counter and then called the police department. Blacker left the shop at that time.
Further investigation de-termined the pawn shop had been entered through an upstairs storage room.
A warrant was served to Blacker charging him with second- and fourth-degree burglary, malicious de-struction of property and three counts of theft.
Blacker remained jailed Wednesday in the Allegany County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
