Garrett County woman injured in Interstate 68 crash - 09/26

GRANTSVILLE — An Oakland woman was injured Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 68 at Chestnut Ridge Road, according to Maryland State Police.

Irma J. Sanders, 64, was flown to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter Trooper 5 for treatment of unspecified injuries suffered in the 6:41 p.m. crash.

Police said Sanders was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla westbound near the ramp to U.S. Route 219 when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed into the next lane into the path of a 2006 Ford F-250 truck being driven by Herbert B. Richter of Normalville, Pa.

The Sanders vehicle was struck in the rear, causing it to spin across the highway and into an embankment on the north side where it overturned.

Richter was not injured, police said.

Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department responded along with Northern Garrett Rescue Squad and ambulances from Meyersdale and Salisbury, Pa., according to the Garrett County 911 center.

Senior Trooper J. Schlossnagle is continuing to investigate the mishap.
