CUMBERLAND — Contractors working at the U-about construction site near the Park and Ride on U.S. Route 220 south accidentally broke a 20-inch water main early Thursday.
However, city water department workers had the main back in service several hours later after completing repairs, according to Tracy Watkins, administrative associate for the city’s water distribution office.
The incident was reported to the city at 1:24 a.m. causing disruption of water service to the Bowling Green and Cresaptown areas, including the Western Correctional Institution and the North Branch Correctional Institution on U.S. 220.
Cumberland city water department crews responded and reported repairs to the main were completed by 8:30 a.m. with service restored to affected areas at that time.
No city customers were affected by the incident, according to Watkins.
