CUMBERLAND — A 74-year-old Cumberland man was injured Monday when a State Highway Administration dump truck apparently lost its brakes and struck his van in the roundabout of U.S. Route 220, Maryland State Police said.
Paul F. Williams was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by a Cumberland Fire Department ambulance following the 11:10 a.m. crash. Williams suffered moderate injuries, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by Tfc. P.T. Spicer. The International model truck being driven by Steven R. Hughes, 50, of Cumberland, descended the steep ramp to U.S. 220 from eastbound Interstate 68 and apparently lost its brakes, entered the roundabout and then clipped the rear end of Williams’ Dodge van, Spicer said.
Cumberland Police also responded to the crash that remains under investigation by Spicer.
