CUMBERLAND — A shoplifting incident escalated when the suspect refused to stay at the Park Street business, allegedly assaulted one of the employees and ran from the area early Friday morning.
Cumberland Police responded to the 700 block of Park Street at 4:34 a.m. and were asked to pursue Temeka Woods, 31, of Cumberland on Maryland Avenue. One of the employees followed Woods after she left the parking lot, police said.
Woods was apprehended by police following a brief chase and was found in possession of drug paraphernalia. Police discovered that she had two warrants for her arrest. She was served the warrants and charged with theft under $1,000, assault, possession of paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
All items were recovered and returned to the business.
Woods was held in the Allegany County Detention Center.
