Wreck closes state Route 36 - 10/25

MIDLAND — State Route 36 was closed for nearly five hours Tuesday in the area of Big Lane Avenue after a tractor-trailer lost its load of paper around 5:50 p.m., according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

Driver Alexander Morgan Scott, 41, of Maytown, Pa., and his son Reid Stephen Scott, 19, of Wrightsville, Pa., were able to get out of the truck that had rolled onto the driver’s side on the southbound shoulder of the road. Neither one was injured, police said.

The driver told police that he was hauling 47,000 pounds of paper when the truck began to sway and then rolled. He was not charged, police said.

Maryland State Highway Administration, the Salvation Army and volunteers from Midland, Shaft and Good Will fire companies and George’s Creek Ambulance responded, as did the Allegany County Hazardous Incident Response Team and Fire Police. Barton Volunteer Fire Company was on standby.

The road was reopened at 10:10 p.m. after the paper was removed with the assistance of the volunteer fire crews and the vehicle was removed by South Side Salvage.
