Man sent to prison for burglary - 02/06

OAKLAND — An Oakland man who pleaded guilty in Garrett County Circuit Court to second-degree burglary was sentenced to eight years in the Maryland Division of Correction.

Related charges against Richard Edward Burns, 25, Oakland, were dismissed.

Burns was charged in October with breaking into a number of units at a local self-storage facility. Inventory that was the property of Frito-Lay was stolen, which Burns had shared with friends and family who later gave statements to police. Burns admitted that he used a pry bar to break into the units, looking for electronics and other property to steal.

At the time, he was wanted on warrants for probation violations out of North Carolina in cases that also involved theft and breaking into storage facilities.
