SHORT GAP, W.Va.— Frankfort Middle School students were evacuated at 9:04 a.m. Friday to Frankfort High School following electrical problems that caused the building to fill up with smoke. The electrical problems were caused by a heating unit, according to Everett Metheny, Short Gap Volunteer Fire Department chief.
The students returned to the school around 10:30 a.m. and were kept out of the side of the building that experienced electrical problems, which didn’t have power, said Metheny.
Both Short Gap and Fort Ashby volunteer fire departments responded.
The Short Gap and Fort Ashby departments also responded to a three-vehicle crash at 1:31 p.m. Friday on state Route 956. Four people were transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center and one person had to be extricated from a vehicle, according to Metheny. Also responding were Ridgeley and Cresaptown ambulances.
