CUMBERLAND — A city man was jailed Tuesday after he was served two arrest warrants stemming from two separate cases, Cumberland Police said.
Stephen Allan Smyth, 58, was charged with second-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon with intent to injure in connection with an alleged assault May 2 in the 400 block of Seymour Street.
The victim told police Smyth came to his residence, argued and then held a large knife to the victim’s rib cage and threatened to kill him.
The victim was not injured and did not seek medical treatment.
The second warrant stemmed from an incident May 4 in the 400 block of Columbia Street.
The incident involved a hit-and-run crash in which Smyth allegedly struck the rear of a vehicle, causing damage to the SUV he was driving and the victim vehicle.
Smyth was identified by a witness and was arrested on charges of driving an uninsured vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
He was being held late Wednesday afternoon on $3,000 bond.
