Woman allegedly pushed from vehicle - 10/29

BOWLING GREEN —  A woman was taken to the hospital early Sunday morning after allegedly being pushed out of a moving vehicle and later down a flight of stairs, and police have charged a Cumberland man with assault in the case.

Leroy Johnson, 24, was arrested around 3 a.m. after officers were called to a residence on Bowling Street for a domestic assault, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a sheriff’s report, an investigation re-vealed that Johnson and the 20-year-old victim from Cumberland began arguing in a bar and continued arguing in a vehicle on McMullen Highway until Johnson allegedly pushed her out of the vehicle. A motorist stopped to assist the woman and took her to an apartment on Bowling Street, the report said.

Witnesses told police that Johnson arrived at the apartment shortly thereafter, kicked the door in, and continued to assault the woman, who tried to flee. Johnson allegedly pushed her down a flight of stairs, the sheriff’s report said.

Johnson was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct and was being held on $75,000 bond.

The Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department transported the victim to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
