SHA truck crash blocks Route 220 - 10/12

CUMBERLAND — No injuries were reported Friday when a State Highway Administration truck equipped with a wing snowplow clipped a concrete jersey wall on U.S. Route 220 south and became disabled, according to a spokesman for the SHA.

At about 8 a.m. the SHA tandem dump truck with newly installed plow hit the jersey wall while heading northbound on U.S  Route 220 south to access eastbound Interstate 68.

The mishap occurred near the park-and-ride lot and prior to the U-about under construction at the U.S. 220/I-68 ramp area.

The plow struck and damaged a tire and the truck’s hydraulic hose system, creating an oil leak that was cleaned up by SHA workers.

Nine temporary concrete jersey walls were reset at the scene by SHA workers immediately following the accident.

The SHA worker and truck were on routine patrol when the accident occurred.

The accident reportedly created a traffic tie-up that extended beyond the entrance to the nearby industrial park. Motorists turned around and traveled back through Cresaptown to Winchester Road to resume travel into Cumberland and points east.
