BEDFORD, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has denied an appeal from Barry Lee Crespo of Bedford, who was sentenced in 2009 to 20 to 40 years for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Crespo claimed that his trial counsel, Phillip Masorti, was ineffective, according to Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins.
According to testimony presented during the two-day trial in March 2009, Crespo had been assigned to mentor the girl in October 2007 through the Youth Advocate Program. He eventually took her to a motel in Reading where they had sex, then lied about being there.
Crespo is serving his sentence at SCI-Mahanoy in Frackville.
