— CUMBERLAND — Power outages Wednesday morning to South Cumberland and nearby Mineral County, W.Va., were caused by a single-vehicle accident on Industrial Boulevard that resulted in drunken driving charges against the driver, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Shaun Sears, 29, of Cumberland was not injured in the 7 a.m. crash that occurred at Industrial Boulevard and Thomas Street when he lost control of his eastbound vehicle, struck a fire hydrant and then a guide wire to a utility pole. Damage from the accident resulted in the power outages.

Sears was charged with traffic offenses including driving under the influence. He was released pending trial in district court.

Cumberland Fire Department assisted at the scene.
