Cumberland Times-News

— CUMBERLAND — Various volunteer fire departments were alerted to a report of fire in a residence on Murleys Branch Road in Flintstone on Tuesday afternoon.

Flintstone, Orleans and Baltimore Pike were dispatched just after 2 p.m. by the Allegany County 911 center.

Additional volunteer de-partments were called minutes later — at about the same time that a brush fire was reported in the 18000 block of Mount Savage Road in Mount Savage.

The Allegany County Fire Police was alerted for traffic control for the brush fire.

Both fire alerts occurred less than a half-hour after the emergency center had dispatched an ambulance for a “trauma victim” at the Western Correctional Institution maximum-security prison on U.S. Route 220 at Cresaptown.

A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said an inmate at WCI had been injured in a fight with his cellmate. The inmate reportedly suffered injuries that were non life-threatening.
