Leads sought in West Side burglaries - 11/09

CUMBERLAND — Entry into a residence in the 600 block of Washington Street and a second entry in the same area remain under investigation by the Cumberland Police Department.

Between Oct. 6 and 14, thieves broke into a residence in the 600 block of Washington Street where they stole items valued at $7,000. Items taken included jewelry, gold coins, foreign coins, a camera, silverware, domestic and foreign stamps, and a gold pocket watch.

During a second incident in the same vicinity, the occupants awoke to find a tall, slender male inside their home. Upon being confronted, the suspect ran from the building. No items were stolen during the incident, police said.

Both crime scenes were processed by evidence collection specialists and some evidence was gathered for possible analysis.

    An odor of marijuana was reportedly detected when Cumberland Police contacted Harley Donovan Brooks Jr., 26, who was searched and found in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
