Somerset man dies in motorcycle crash - 09/10

SOMERSET, Pa. — A Somerset man was killed and a Somerset woman injured late Sunday afternoon when their motorcycle struck the rear end of a car stopped to make a turn in Somerset Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Scott James, 58, suffered fatal head and chest injuries in the 4:35 p.m. accident.

Passenger Valerie James, 29, also of Somerset, was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown for treatment of leg injuries, police said.

Police said Scott James was riding a 2004 Boss Hoss motorcycle northbound on state Route 985 when he struck the rear of a Chevrolet Cavalier operated by Connie Stinebiser, 74, of Friedens. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.

The Stinebiser vehicle was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn left onto Bakersville Edie Road.

Upon impact, both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected, police said.

Valerie James was struck by a 1983 Jeep Scrambler that was traveling southbound being driven by a 17-year-old Somerset youth and also occupied by a 15-year-old Somerset youth.

No other injuries were reported.

The accident remains under investigation.
