— CUMBERLAND — An 18-year-old city woman was charged with drunken driving after she lost control of her van in the Willowbrook Road roundabout Tuesday.

Amanda Mae McDonald, 18, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol under the age of 21, Cumberland Police said.

McDonald was issued citations for the violations and released later from police headquarters, pending trial in district court.

Investigation revealed McDonald was operating a 2000 Chrysler van southbound on Willowbrook Road in the first roundabout just before 3 a.m. when she failed to navigate the roadway, traveled through the roundabout grassy area and struck two directional traffic signs.

The vehicle then jumped the curb and traveled up a small embankment on the right side of the roadway.

Police said McDonald was found in possession of marijuana at the scene.
