Man charged in city mall incident - 07/04

CUMBERLAND — A Rawlings man who allegedly accosted a city code enforcement officer last week on the downtown Cumberland mall was arrested Tuesday when Cumberland Police served him with an arrest warrant stemming from the incident.

Cumberland Police arrested Aubrey Leon Woosley, 19, on charges of second-degree assault and disturbing the peace. He was also issued a citation for possession of marijuana.

Following a bail review, Woosley was released on his personal recognizance, pending trial in district court.

Police said the charges stemmed from an alleged incident on June 27 in which Woosley was advised by the code enforcement officer not to ride his bicycle on the downtown mall.

Woosley allegedly did not comply and cursed and threatened to punch the officer as he struck the officer with his bicycle.

Woosley then rode away and an arrest warrant was obtained by Cumberland Police.

Tuesday, an officer on patrol on Park Street located Woosley and arrested him without incident.

During the arrest, Woosley was reportedly found in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana.
